Mock Draft Part 2 - Straight Cash Homey!

Welcome back everyone! Today, I'll take a look at the 2nd half of the draft and assess the potential starting lineups for everyone's team. Nick also sent me his analysis of his own picks so I will add that at the end as well. Here’s out the rest of the draft went down…

Round: 9
(97) Haters GonnaHate - Fred Jackson RB
(98) Team Kornreich - Kyle Orton QB

(99) Team Longoria - Ben Roethlisberger QB
(100) Team Recchio - Devin Hester WR
(101) JohnGus SucksPP - Willis McGahee RB

(102) Team schlussel - Dustin Keller TE
(103) Team feeney - Nate Washington WR
(104) Team Paradise - Steve Breaston WR
(105) Team sharma - Earnest Graham RB
(106) JonGus SucksBallz - Donnie Avery WR
(107) Team Goldberg - Kellen Winslow TE
(108) Team Williamson - LeSean McCoy RB

  • Me – Yesterday I mentioned that I wanted to increase my RB depth. I like Mendenhall at 8.12 and I immediately followed that up with Fred Jackson at 9.1. The Bills just gave this guy a new contract and that tells me that they like the guy. Marshawn Lynch is going to be suspended for the first 3 games of the season and so Jackson should be the starter in his absence. That gives me a solid flex option for those 3 weeks and should Lynch miss any additional time with an injury, Jackson would probably be named the starter.
    • MJD, Boldin, Welker, Witten , Bush, Palmer, Ward, Mendenhall, Jackson
  • Nate – Nate went with his backup QB in Round 9. Orton should be a good #2 fantasy QB. This is a little bit of a homer pick as Nate is a big Broncos fan. With Josh McDaniels now coaching, Orton has a good chance to bust out with those great WRs he has.
    • AP, Reggie Wayne, Roddy White, Warner, Tony G, Willie Parker, LJ, Holt
  • Scott – Scotty grabbed a guy that we both really like in Devin Hester. He could be one of the biggest breakout guys in ’09. I really like his chances with Culter and Hester has already said he’s having the best camp of his career. You’ll notice at this point in the draft, the starting lineups should be filled and guys will start grabbing their backups. This was a great pick.
    • Forte, Steve Smith, Ryan Grant, Pierre Thomas, VJack, McNabb, Benson, Moss, Hester
  • Nick – Nick went with Willis McGahee. Not McGahee is not the starter in Baltimore, but that backfield is pretty messy right now and with the frequency of injuries in the NFL, McGahee could end up starting at some point and he still has a chance to beat our Ray Rice for the starting gig. Getting Willis as his 4th RB was not a bad way to go at all.
    • SJax, Westbrook, Manning, OchoCinco, Knowshown, AGonz, Coles, Walter, McGahee
  • Matt – Not sure about this pick. Avery was hurt recently and will be out for 4-6 weeks with a stress fracture in his foot. That means he’s out for the whole preseason and maybe even a week or 2 of the regular season. That’s a lot and could hinder him all season. I’m not taking Avery this year and definitely not in the 9th round.

o Fitz, Slaton, Marshall, Aaron Rodgers, DeSean, Beanie Wells, Crabtree, Hightower, Avery

Round: 10
(109) Team Williamson - Laurence Maroney RB
(110) Team Goldberg - Donald Driver WR
(111) JonGus SucksBallz - Le'Ron McClain RB
(112) Team sharma - Titans D/ST D/ST
(113) Team Paradise - Sammy Morris RB
(114) Team feeney - Matt Hasselbeck QB
(115) Team schlussel - Jerious Norwood RB
(116) JohnGus SucksPP - John Carlson TE
(117) Team Recchio - Domenik Hixon WR

(118) Team Longoria - Fred Taylor RB
(119) Team Kornreich - Lance Moore WR
(120) Haters GonnaHate - Ted Ginn Jr. WR

  • Matt – Decent pick in the 10th round for Matt. McClain could be the goaline guy and if he is, he’ll be a decent flex option.

o Fitz, Slaton, Marshall, Aaron Rodgers, DeSean, Beanie Wells, Crabtree, Hightower, Avery, McClain

  • Nick – I love this pick. John Carlson is one of my sleepers this year at TE. Not sure how much of a sleeper he is thought as he had a nice season last year. In the 10th, getting a quality starting TE is absolutely tremendous. Nick is having a very strong draft.
    • SJax, Westbrook, Manning, OchoCinco, Knowshown, AGonz, Coles, Walter, McGahee , Carlson
  • Scott – I like this pick as well. With Burress out of the picture, someone has got to start for the Giants. They’re running game will still be dominant and Eli is still a good QB and should be able to get Hixon involved if he does in fact with the #1 spot. He’s definitely a good flex option.
    • Forte, Steve Smith, Ryan Grant, Pierre Thomas, VJack, McNabb, Benson, Moss, Hester
  • Nate – I probably won’t pick Lance Moore this year, but that doesn’t mean he’s not good. The guy had a great year last year. In the 10th, I think he’s a good value. I’ve seen him go in the 5th in some mock drafts, unacceptable. Between Holt and Moore, one should definitely pan out as a decent #3 WR for Nate.
    • AP, Reggie Wayne, Roddy White, Warner, Tony G, Willie Parker, LJ, Holt
  • Me – I mentioned earlier how I like getting guys with special talents. Ginn has the talent, can he put together a dynamite season? I’m not too sure, but Bill Parcells believes in the guy and so do I. Also, the 3rd year mark is when WRs either prove that they are or they aren’t. I think Ginn will have every opportunity to prove that he is the real deal this year. I’d be willing to find out in the 10th round every time.
    • MJD, Boldin, Welker, Witten , Bush, Palmer, Ward, Mendenhall, Jackson, Ginn Jr

Round: 11
(121) Haters GonnaHate - Chester Taylor RB
(122) Team Kornreich - Ravens D/ST D/ST

(123) Team Longoria - Eli Manning QB
(124) Team Recchio - Zach Miller TE
(125) JohnGus SucksPP - Leon Washington RB

(126) Team schlussel - Justin Fargas RB
(127) Team feeney - Michael Bush RB
(128) Team Paradise - Percy Harvin WR
(129) Team sharma - Derrick Mason WR
(130) JonGus SucksBallz - Jeremy Maclin WR
(131) Team Goldberg - David Garrard QB
(132) Team Williamson - Bobby Engram WR

  • Me – After getting a flier in Ginn at the end of the 10th, I went back to the RB pool to start the 11th. Grabbing another backup RB, I increased my chance of getting a potential starter increased. AP will get so many touches and take a lot of punishment so Chester has a chance to start a game or 2.
    • MJD, Boldin, Welker, Witten , Bush, Palmer, Ward, Mendenhall, Jackson, Ginn Jr, Chester Taylor
  • Nate – I’m not going to say this is a bad pick, I just don’t agree with it. I’m a firm believer that you wait until your last 2 or 3 picks to grab your defense and kicker. There’s just not a lot of deviation between a top D or K and an average one when it comes to fantasy. The Ravens should have a stellar defense but the 11th is about 4 rounds earlier then I would of taken a D.
    • AP, Reggie Wayne, Roddy White, Warner, Tony G, Willie Parker, LJ, Holt, Ravens
  • Scott – Scotty continued his stellar draft with another guy I’m starting to have a man crush on, Zach Miller. I’ve always liked Miller, but they Raiders are just so bad that I usually avoid them like the plague. However, this year I would take Miller. He could easily get 70 catches and that’s just fine in a PPR league.
    • Forte, Steve Smith, Ryan Grant, Pierre Thomas, VJack, McNabb, Benson, Moss, Hester, Z. Miller
  • Nick – In the 11th, Nick went with an intriguing player in Leon Washington. I feel better about Washington after Rex Ryan (his coach) said recently that regardless of who starts for the Jets, that Washington will still be their change of pace type back meaning he’ll probably continue to be a good pick in a PPR league. Not a bad #5 RB at all.
    • SJax, Westbrook, Manning, OchoCinco, Knowshown, AGonz, Coles, Walter, McGahee , Carlson, Leon Washington
  • Matt - Oh what am I going to do with Matt? He selects another questionable player in Maclin. Don’t get me wrong, I love Maclin, just not this year. The guy isn’t in camp yet and with all the talent in their receiving corps he’s going to have a hard time cracking the starting lineup come mid year. I’ve taken him off my target list for now until I hear better things this summer. But to be fair to Matt, DeSean Jackson emerged as a rookie last year and Maclin, being a great talent could do the same.
    • Fitz, Slaton, Marshall, Aaron Rodgers, DeSean, Beanie Wells, Crabtree, Hightower, Avery, McClain, Maclin

Round: 12
(133) Team Williamson - Patrick Crayton WR
(134) Team Goldberg - Eagles D/ST D/ST
(135) JonGus SucksBallz - Jeremy Shockey TE
(136) Team sharma - Kevin Curtis WR
(137) Team Paradise - Chargers D/ST D/ST
(138) Team feeney - Vikings D/ST D/ST
(139) Team schlussel - Amani Toomer WR
(140) JohnGus SucksPP - Trent Edwards QB
(141) Team Recchio - Chris Chambers WR

(142) Team Longoria - Dolphins D/ST D/ST
(143) Team Kornreich - Ricky Williams RB
(144) Haters GonnaHate - Shonn Greene RB

  • Matt – I do like this pick. In a PPR league, Shockey should see a decent amount of receptions especially if Brees throws it all over the field like he did last year. If you’re going to wait to get a TE this year, Shockey is a good way to go.
    • Fitz, Slaton, Marshall, Aaron Rodgers, DeSean, Beanie Wells, Crabtree, Hightower, Avery, McClain, Maclin, Shockey
  • Nick – I doubt Nick will be starting Edwards very much because Manning is a stud, but I like Edwards a lot… TO, Evans, staple of backs, 3rd year player, lots of good stuff with Edwards.
    • SJax, Westbrook, Manning, OchoCinco, Knowshown, AGonz, Coles, Walter, McGahee , Carlson, Leon Washington, Edwards
  • Scott – This had to be a joke. There’s 2 guys that Scotty and I can’t stand, won’t take, won’t touch because they are dogs, Larry Johnson and Chris Chambers. I’m gonna have to ask Scotty about this one.
    • Forte, Steve Smith, Ryan Grant, Pierre Thomas, VJack, McNabb, Benson, Moss, Hester, Z. Miller, Chris Chambers
  • Nate – Run, Ricky, Run Ricky Williams, one of my all-time favorite players. He’s a good value here.
    • AP, Reggie Wayne, Roddy White, Warner, Tony G, Willie Parker, LJ, Holt, Ravens
  • Me – I went with the Jets rookie RB Shonn Greene. I’m hearing a lot of good things about this guy including that he would be the guy if Thomas Jones went down.
    • MJD, Boldin, Welker, Witten , Bush, Palmer, Ward, Mendenhall, Jackson, Ginn Jr, Chester Taylor, Greene

Round: 13
(145) Haters GonnaHate - Jamaal Charles RB
(146) Team Kornreich - Muhsin Muhammad WR

(147) Team Longoria - Jake Delhomme QB
(148) Team Recchio - Stephen Gostkowski K
(149) JohnGus SucksPP - Correll Buckhalter RB

(150) Team schlussel - Anthony Fasano TE
(151) Team feeney - Justin Gage WR
(152) Team Paradise - Steve Smith WR
(153) Team sharma - Panthers D/ST D/ST
(154) JonGus SucksBallz - Miles Austin WR
(155) Team Goldberg - Kevin Boss TE
(156) Team Williamson - Ryan Longwell K

  • Me – My love for RBs continues with Charles. He’s supposed to be their main receiving threat out of the backfield and like I mentioned earlier, LJ has a lot of “dog” in him so Charles could benefit because of it.
    • MJD, Boldin, Welker, Witten , Bush, Palmer, Ward, Mendenhall, Jackson, Ginn Jr, Chester Taylor, Greene, Charles
  • Nate – The ageless wonder Mushin Muhammad, not a bad way to go. He’s the #2 in Carolina. Good spot to get him in.
    • AP, Reggie Wayne, Roddy White, Warner, Tony G, Willie Parker, LJ, Holt, Ravens, Muhammad
  • Scott – Scott grabbed his K here. The Patriots will be scoring more than Pacman Jones in a strip club, so this is a good K to target. Again I’m waiting on my K and D, but Gostkowski might be the #1 K this year.
    • Forte, Steve Smith, Ryan Grant, Pierre Thomas, VJack, McNabb, Benson, Moss, Hester, Z. Miller, Chris Chambers, Gostkoski
  • Nick – Nick got Knowshawn’s handcuff in Buckhalter and guarantees him the starting Bronco back. It’s always a good idea to handcuff your stud back with his real life back up especially this late in the draft.
    • SJax, Westbrook, Manning, OchoCinco, Knowshown, AGonz, Coles, Walter, McGahee , Carlson, Leon Washington, Edwards
  • Matt – Actually a great pick here. I hear good things about Austin and we all know Crayton isn’t anything special so Austin could surprise this year in that Cowboy offense.
    • Fitz, Slaton, Marshall, Aaron Rodgers, DeSean, Beanie Wells, Crabtree, Hightower, Avery, McClain, Maclin, Shockey, Austin

Round: 14
(157) Team Williamson - Joe Flacco QB
(158) Team Goldberg - Patriots D/ST D/ST
(159) JonGus SucksBallz - Micheal Spurlock WR
(160) Team sharma - David Akers K
(161) Team Paradise - Jason Campbell QB
(162) Team feeney - Shaun Hill QB
(163) Team schlussel - Nate Kaeding K
(164) JohnGus SucksPP - Joey Galloway WR
(165) Team Recchio - Tony Scheffler TE

(166) Team Longoria - Mason Crosby K
(167) Team Kornreich - Jason Elam K
(168) Haters GonnaHate - Josh Morgan WR

  • Matt – This pick was a joke. You would not make a pick like this in a real draft but it’s pretty funny here in a mock.
    • Fitz, Slaton, Marshall, Aaron Rodgers, DeSean, Beanie Wells, Crabtree, Hightower, Avery, McClain, Maclin, Shockey, Austin, Spurlock
  • Nick – Another guy I love late in Galloway. A Patriots starting receiver in the 14th? Mark me down for yes! Nice pick here for Nick.
    • SJax, Westbrook, Manning, OchoCinco, Knowshown, AGonz, Coles, Walter, McGahee , Carlson, Leon Washington, Edwards, Galloway
  • Scott – I’ve always like Scheffler. He makes a great #2 TE and gives Scotty a good option to alternate starting TEs based on the better matchups.
    • Forte, Steve Smith, Ryan Grant, Pierre Thomas, VJack, McNabb, Benson, Moss, Hester, Z. Miller, Chris Chambers, Gostkoski, Scheffler
  • Nate – Nate snags his K here, Elam is a good selection.
    • AP, Reggie Wayne, Roddy White, Warner, Tony G, Willie Parker, LJ, Holt, Ravens, Muhammad, Elam
  • Me – Morgan is another one of my sleepers. He’s currently SF’s #2 WR and with Crabtree in the middle of a tissy fit, Morgan will open up the season as the starter.
    • MJD, Boldin, Welker, Witten , Bush, Palmer, Ward, Mendenhall, Jackson, Ginn Jr, Chester Taylor, Greene, Charles, Morgan

Round: 15
(169) Haters GonnaHate - Bears D/ST D/ST
(170) Team Kornreich - Chad Pennington QB

(171) Team Longoria - Deion Branch WR
(172) Team Recchio - Redskins D/ST D/ST
(173) JohnGus SucksPP - Rob Bironas K

(174) Team schlussel - Nick Folk K
(175) Team feeney - Neil Rackers K
(176) Team Paradise - T.J. Duckett RB
(177) Team sharma - Robbie Gould K
(178) JonGus SucksBallz - Joe Nedney K
(179) Team Goldberg - Michael Jenkins WR
(180) Team Williamson - Darrius Heyward-Bey WR

  • Me – Now it’s the last 2 rounds so I’ll take my D here, I’m happy with the Bears D in the 15th, no doubt about it.
    • MJD, Boldin, Welker, Witten , Bush, Palmer, Ward, Mendenhall, Jackson, Ginn Jr, Chester Taylor, Greene, Charles, Morgan, Bears D
  • Nate – Pennington is a nice backup and quietly will have a lot of options to throw to. He should be a good backup fantasy QB.
    • AP, Reggie Wayne, Roddy White, Warner, Tony G, Willie Parker, LJ, Holt, Ravens, Muhammad, Elam, Pennington
  • Scott – Scotty opts to go with his favorite real life team’s D in the Redskins. They have a great secondary and should be able to create quite a few turnovers.
    • Forte, Steve Smith, Ryan Grant, Pierre Thomas, VJack, McNabb, Benson, Moss, Hester, Z. Miller, Chris Chambers, Gostkoski, Scheffler, Redskins D
  • Nick – Nick grabs his K, if the Titans offense stalls in the red zone which teams with weak passing attacks can do, then Brionas will benefit and Brionas can high the long ones.
    • SJax, Westbrook, Manning, OchoCinco, Knowshown, AGonz, Coles, Walter, McGahee , Carlson, Leon Washington, Edwards, Galloway, Brionas
  • Matt – Matt took Nedney, same thing applies to Nedney that I just said about Brionas.
    • Fitz, Slaton, Marshall, Aaron Rodgers, DeSean, Beanie Wells, Crabtree, Hightower, Avery, McClain, Maclin, Shockey, Austin, Spurlock, Nedney

Round: 16
(181) Team Williamson - Tashard Choice RB
(182) Team Goldberg - John Kasay K
(183) JonGus SucksBallz - 49ers D/ST D/ST
(184) Team sharma - Sage Rosenfels QB
(185) Team Paradise - Garrett Hartley K
(186) Team feeney - Bo Scaife TE
(187) Team schlussel - Nate Burleson WR
(188) JohnGus SucksPP - Packers D/ST D/ST
(189) Team Recchio - Maurice Morris RB

(190) Team Longoria - Edgerrin James RB
(191) Team Kornreich - Visanthe Shiancoe TE
(192) Haters GonnaHate - Kris Brown K

  • Matt – Matt took the Niners D, actually not a bad D this late.
    • Fitz, Slaton, Marshall, Aaron Rodgers, DeSean, Beanie Wells, Crabtree, Hightower, Avery, McClain, Maclin, Shockey, Austin, Spurlock, Nedney, Niners D.
  • Nick – Another D I like this year in the Packers.
    • SJax, Westbrook, Manning, OchoCinco, Knowshown, AGonz, Coles, Walter, McGahee , Carlson, Leon Washington, Edwards, Galloway, Brionas, Packers D.
  • Scott – Morris could be a nice fill in if Smith goes down in Det.
    • Forte, Steve Smith, Ryan Grant, Pierre Thomas, VJack, McNabb, Benson, Moss, Hester, Z. Miller, Chris Chambers, Gostkoski, Scheffler, Redskins D, Morris.
  • Nate – I would be higher on Shiancoe if they signed Favre, but it’s a backup TE in the 16th not a lot of risk with this pick.
    • AP, Reggie Wayne, Roddy White, Warner, Tony G, Willie Parker, LJ, Holt, Ravens, Muhammad, Elam, Pennington, Shiancoe.
  • Me – Last pick of the draft, I went with Kris Brown. The Texans should move the ball at will this year so Brown should have a lot of opportunities.
    • MJD, Boldin, Welker, Witten , Bush, Palmer, Ward, Mendenhall, Jackson, Ginn Jr, Chester Taylor, Greene, Charles, Morgan, Bears D, Brown.

    • K – Brionas
    • D – Packers

*SPECIAL CONTRIBUTION TO THE BLOG* Here’s Nick’s breakdown of his draft…

I recently downloaded the most up to date ADP (average draft position) for PPR (points per reception) leagues today so I thought I’d put it to work for tonight’s mock. First 2 picks were fairly obvious, I ended up getting SJax & Westy, bona fide studs in a PPR league. I like to grab at least 1 WR with my first 3 picks, but Peyton Manning was still sitting there in the 3rd at #29. His ADP is 30 but I usually never see him this late so I decided to pull the trigger and take this defending MVP. When my turn came up in the 4th I realized why I usually wait a little longer to draft my QB. The WRs had taken a big drop off. I was left with Chad Ochocinco at my number 1 WR, which was somewhat of a reach according to the chart and something I’m not too comfortable with. But there was not too much I could do at that point, I was stuck and I was forced into taking someone I didn’t want just to fill a need. There weren’t any wideouts I wanted to overpay for in the 5th so I took advantage of rookie RB Knowshon Moreno slipping to me, giving me 3 RBs that I’m very comfortable with leading me into the season. This allowed me to hold off on drafting backs for awhile and concentrate on using my next 3 picks to solidify my weak receiving core. Which I did, A. Gonzo, Coles, & Walter. Not the greatest ever but good enough to get me by playing match ups every week, though I still wish I had gotten a stud WR instead of Manning. The rest of the draft at this point was just using my ADP cheat sheet to fill in my bench. I drafted best player available from then on, got my kicker and defense with my last 2 picks and the result are as follows.

Matt’s Draft and potential starting lineup

  • Fitz, Slaton, Marshall, Aaron Rodgers, DeSean, Beanie Wells, Crabtree, Hightower, Avery, McClain, Maclin, Shockey, Austin, Spurlock, Nedney, Niners D.
    • QB – Rodgers
    • RB – Slaton, Wells
    • WR – Fitz, Marshall
    • TE – Shockey
    • Flex – DeSean
    • K – Nedney
    • D – 49ers

I hope you guys enjoyed our mock draft and the analysis that went with it. Again, I can not stress enough how important it is to do some mock drafts to prepare you for your draft. You always feel better about taking a test after you’ve studied, so study. Thanks again for checking out the blog and come back tomorrow when I tell you about a fun way to prepare for your draft that can win you some swag come the end of the year.
